HISTORY OF BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biochemistry, Paul University, Awka was established in the 2016/2017 academic session as a full-fledged department with six registered students. At inception, the Department was headed by Prof. Emesi Katchi and subsequently was followed by Dr. V. H. A. Enemor from 2017-2023, as adjunct Head of Department with two other regular staff, Mr. Emmanuel C. Udegbunam an academic and Miss Modesta Okonkwo a technologist.
Within the past six years the department has graduated a total of 12 students from three sets. The programme has now included environmental biochemistry with two elective options for graduating students in medical biochemistry and industrial biochemistry. The orientation of the programme emphasizes biochemical entrepreneurship and self-employment in environmental pollution consultancy, production of analytical kits, and production of industrial and analytical enzymes.
An ideal environment for academic aspiration is one which upholds moral rectitude, discipline and academic excellence. Paul University, biochemistry department has continued to uphold these ideals for the benefit of the discipline and programme. Incoming students are therefore expected to embrace these ideals in order to grow the future we all desire.
